Baby Countdown Playlist

dadbaby2

Whoa! Only 10 days until I’m a dad! Time for a baby countdown playlist. There are tons of songs that would be perfect for this (Paul Simon, Ben Folds, Darius Rucker, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, etc), but they’re just a bit too lovey dovey. They’re good songs, but I have a feeling my daughter would be embarrassed someday if she saw a playlist with those in it. So…here are some songs that I hope my girl will appreciate. Continue reading

RIP Ray Manzarek

manzarek

Oh man. The greatest keyboardist in rock history passed away today at the age of 74. His classic keyboard sounds were as much part of “The Doors” as Jim Morrison’s voice or Robby Krieger’s guitar. There are very few bands, such as The Doors, that had a sound all of their own and he was a big reason for that. One of THEE greatest musicians of all-time. Continue reading

Spin Doctors: If The River Was Whiskey

IfRiverWasWhiskey

I can’t get enough of the new Spin Doctors blues album, “If the River Was Whiskey!” It’s so damn good. I love everything about it. I love the Spin Doctors. I LOVE the blues. I love the raw energy on it. I love that they didn’t overdub tracks—what they recorded is what you get. It adds a little character and feeling to the recording. Most music nowadays is so Continue reading

RIP George Jones

George Jones passed away today at the age of 81. I was never much of a country fan until the past few years. As a kid my Grandma always had the classic country station on in the background. I never really cared about it at the time, but it got engrained in my head. When I finally realized that I had been missing out my whole life, I started to really Continue reading

RIP Richie Havens

Richie Havens, the legendary Woodstock icon, passed away from a heart attack yesterday at the age of 72. I had always heard the name, but it wasn’t until a few years ago when I found a used copy of Mixed Bag for a couple bucks, that I really started to appreciate his music. Such a unique sound and style. His guitar strumming was just so intense. Continue reading

Rock On: Johnny Cash

johnny_cash

Today would have been the 81st birthday of the Man In Black. Johnny was one of the few artists in history to transcend all boundaries. He was rockabilly. He was folk. He was blues. He was country. He was a rebel. He was a badass. He was a junkie. He was a man of God. He was a legend. That’s why he’s probably the most influential artist of the 20th century. Continue reading

Rock On: Chuck Berry

Today’s the birthday of the father of rock ‘n’ roll. Amazingly, he still plays live one Wednesday night a month at Blueberry Hill, a local club in his hometown of St. Louis. Every show sells out. And why wouldn’t it? My brother and I took a road trip to St. Louis in ’06 to see him. It was just after his 80th birthday and he was great. Even at 80, Continue reading
